So why did Icarus make music in recovery?

Because music was always there. On the long walks when my head wouldn't shut up. Between sets lifting weights, when the rhythm pulled another rep out of me. In those quiet moments when I was doing the kind of aesthetic work that recovery demands — not just rebuilding a body, but rebuilding a mind. I love the sound of nature. The wind through trees, the silence of dawn. But sometimes you need a beat. Sometimes silence is too loud and you need something to move with you, not against you.

So I started paying attention. I noticed which songs I reached for when I was drowning — and which ones I avoided because they'd tip me over. I noticed how a track could refill something that had drained out of me. How another could unlock a memory I'd buried. I wrote a paper on it: the power of music to release emotion, to feel emotion when you're numb. We use music to remember happy moments. We use it to avoid things we're not ready to face. And sometimes — the most important times — we use it to release what's been stuck inside us for years.

That's when I built a method. Using AI to create soundtracks calibrated to the emotions you actually need — not the ones you're struggling from. These aren't songs that chase your mood.
